MICHELIN Guide 2017
233 State St., Los Altos 94022
From 13 USD to 24 USD
"Despite its affluence, Los Altos isn't heavy on good restaurant options, which has made this Mediterranean spot a welcome addition to the scene. Set in a strip mall, Urfa's simple space boasts a small back patio for sunny days, with warm and welcoming service to boot. Homey and well-seasoned, the dishes here span the Mediterranean and Middle East, with a particular focus on Turkey (urfa is, after all, a type of Turkish chili pepper). The crowd of local families is always up for a round of the smoky chicken shish kabobs, piled on buttery white rice with char-grilled tomatoes and peppers; or the crisp, herbaceous falafel. For dessert, try something new: künefe, a Turkish sweet of melted, soft white cheese covered in crisp pastry threads and sweet syrup"

Urfa is a city in South-Eastern Turkey, deeply rooted in history, so its unique cuisine is an amalgamation of the cuisines of the many civilizations that have ruled in Urfa. Dishes carry names in Kurdish, Arabic, Armenian, Syrian, and Turkish, and are often prepared in a spicy manner. It is widely believed that Urfa is the birthplace of many dishes, including Raw Kibbé (Çiğ Köfte), which according to the legend, was crafted by the Prophet Abraham from ingredients he had at hand.
Urfa is a big user of clarified butter, made exclusively from sheep's milk.
At Urfa bistro we will try our best to use local products to create dishes as same as prepared in Urfa.
